Living Water Smart: British Columbia’s Water Plan

The Challenge:
Assist the British Columbia government with development and implementation of a comprehensive plan to sustainably manage and protect the province’s water resources.

The Project:
Prior to founding Econnics, Director Kirk Stinchcombe was involved in the development and launch of Living Water Smart: BC's Water Plan. Specifically, he provided authoritative advice on key water conservation and other related components of the plan.   After it was announced, he went on to support implementation of a range of initiatives including the Western Water Stewardship Council, a national water efficiency labelling program, and development of new measures to protect groundwater.

He was also involved in a number of projects aimed at protecting wetlands and drinking water, including the Township of Langley's Water Management Plan.

The Result:
Living Water Smart was officially unveiled by B.C.’s Minister of the Environment in June 2008, receiving widespread support from stakeholders for its comprehensive and innovative approach to water management. Implementation of the plan continues.
